· In May 1967, MV DUN HUANG owned by COSCO Guangzhou launched her maiden voyage to West Europe from the port of Huangpu, marking the beginning of the first international liner service in China.

· In December 1964, COSCO secured an orderbook named MV LI MING by way of bank-financing. This is the first of its kind in China running S&P business in accordance with international practice. Since then, COSCO expanded its business by sticking to the principles of "BUYING SHIPS WITH BANK LOANS, OPERATING SHIPS UNDER DEBTS, RETURNING LOANS WITH PROFITS AND ACCELERATING DEVELOPMENT", which has made a great contribution to the healthy development of national economy.

· On April 1, 1964, COSCO Shanghai Branch was founded.

· On April 27, 1961, China Ocean Shipping Company was founded in Beijing. On the same day, the Guangzhou Branch of it was established too. On April 28, a grand premier navigation ceremony for the first passenger liner "Guanghua" with the national flag of China was held in Huangpu Port, Guangzhou. Later, "Guanghua" arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia to take Chinese who were suffering there back.

· On January 1, 1953, China Ocean Shipping Agency Head Office was founded in Beijing.

· On June 26, 1950, Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Shipping Company (CHIPOLBROK) came into operation in Tianjin. It is believed to be the first Joint Venture ever set up in Chinese mainland since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

· On April 18, 1979, MV LIU LIN HAI of Shanghai Branch launched her maiden voyage, sailing from Shanghai to Seattle. This is the first merchant ship ever arrived in the US port since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. From then on, the Sino-US maritime transportation service was resumed which was broke down since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

· In March 1979, COSCO got on with overseas contract employment business by signing an agreement with Iino Kaiun Kaisha Ltd. (IINO Lines) in Beijing. This is the first international manning cooperation ever happened in China.

· On September 26, 1978, COSCO's regularly container liner business came into operation??the first of its kind in China. A containership by the name of "PING XIANG CHENG" under Shanghai Branch sailed from Shanghai with exporting goods in containers to Sydney, Australia, marking the beginning of China's international container liner service.

· On July 1, 1976, COSCO Qingdao Branch was founded.

· By the end of 1975, COSCO's fleet capacity in terms of DWT surpassed "FIVE MILLIONS" , indicating an average annual increase of one million DWT. The fact immediately attracted the attention of the industry worldwide.

· On October 1, 1970, COSCO Tianjin Branch was founded.

· On February 15, 1989, COSCO Europe GmbH was founded.

· On November 29, 1988, COSCO reconstructed its joint venture in UK by purchasing the rest of shares held by its business partner and set up a wholly-own subsidiary in London. The establishment of a new COSCO UK marked the beginning of COSCO's transnational business operations in the international arena.

· On June 8, 1987, a Computer-Aided Operation Center was established in COSCO Guangzhou. The implementation of the new system showed that Chinese ocean shipping operation had stepped into a new era of automation.

· On February 10, 1981, Shanghai Ocean Shipping Company opened the container liner routes between China and America, marked by ro-ro ship "Zhangjiakou" first sailing from Shanghai to Port San Francisco, United States West Coast.

· On January 1, 1980, COSCO and Holland Parker Boat Group established Holland Transocean Company in Rotterdam. This was the first overseas joint venture created by COSCO.
· On November 6, 1998, the Ministry of Communications party group announced the adjustment decision to COSCO Group's leader team and leader structure. Chen Zhongbiao was appointed as Chairman of the Board of COSCO Group. Capt. Wei Jiafu was appointed as president and Wang Yunmao was secretary of Party Committee of COSCO Group.

· On March 20, 1998, Shanghai listed Zhongcheng Industry was officially renamed COSCO Development. The change in role of COSCO made it become the first shipping company in China cruising in the fiercely competitive financing market via back-listing.

· On February 1, 1998, Capt. Chen Zhongbiao, former executive president of COSCO, attended the ninth National People's Congress in Beijing. He himself therefore became the first NPC deputy within the group.

· On February 1, 1998, with the joint approval of State Economic & Trade Commission of PRC, State Administration of Taxation of PRC and Customs General Administration of PRC, COSCO Technology Center came into operation and became one of the first class technology centers nationwide.

· On January 27, 1998, COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. was founded and the opening ceremony was held in Shanghai.

· On December 18, 1995, COSCO Bulk Carrier Co., Ltd. was founded in Beijing.

· In October, 1995, COSCO Japan Co., Ltd. was founded.

· On June 28, 1995, COSCO Korea Co., Ltd. was founded.

· On March 20, 1995, COSCO signed an agreement with Shanghai Hudong Shipyard for the construction of three 27,000 DWT bulk carriers and a 70,000 DWT panamax vessel. For the first time in history, COSCO placed orderbooks at home using flag of convenience via overseas financing.

· In December, 1994, COSCO Pacific Limited listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange and was selected constituent stocks of the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong since June 9, 2003.

· On August 28, 1994, COSCO (Hong Kong) Group Co., Ltd. was founded.

· On December 18, 1993, COSCO Industry Co., Ltd. was founded.

· On December 10, 1993, Xiamen Ocean Shipping Company was founded.

· In October, 1993, COSCO Corporation (Singapore) Ltd. listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. It was the first overseas-listed company of COSCO Group, also the first Chinese State-owned enterprises listed overseas.

· On February 16, 1993, the China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company was founded in Beijing.

· On July 22, 1992, the Ministry of Communications appointed Chen Zhongbiao as general manager of COSCO.

· On December 25, 1992, with the approval of State Development Planning Commission, State System Reform Commission and the Trade and Economics Office of State Council, China Ocean Shipping Company was renamed into China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO Group). They also approved to make China Ocean Shipping Company as the core enterprise to construct (China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company). On February 16, 1993, COSCO group was officially set up in Beijing. · On November 23, 2009, COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard Co., Ltd. delivered its new build Sevan Driller, the world's first and most advanced cylindrical drilling unit, to the owner. As the 6th generation of the semi submersible drilling platform, the Sevan Driller, built by COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard for Sevan Marine ASA in Norway, was a high-end leading product with the most advanced technologies and the most powerful performance ability in the world.

· On November 12, 2009, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2009 was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province. The theme of the Summit is "Changing Priorities".

· On October 1, 2009, Piraeus Container Terminal S.A ("PCT"), the wholly-owned subsidiary by COSCO Pacific, announced the commencement of its concession to operate the terminal business at Port of Piraeus in Greece.

· On July 8, 2009, Fortune published the latest Fortune Global 500. COSCO Group was ranked the 327th position with a revenue of 27.4303 billion USD in the year of 2008, jumping 78 steps from the 405th of previous year.

· On May 31, 2009, China COSCO was ranked 337th in the FT Global 500 of Financial Times of the UK, with a market value of US$14,855.4 million.

· On November 25, 2008, COSCO signed the Concession Agreement with Piraeus Port Authority in Athens, Greece. China's President H.E. Hu Jintao, who is on a state visit to Greece witnessed the signing ceremony together with Greek Prime Minister H.E.Kostas Karamanlis, and other heads of state and ministers.

· On November 20, 2008, on behalf of COSCO Capt. Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of COSCO Group signed the "Universal Declaration of human rights", which indicated that COSCO Group would support and respect the protection of human rights within their sphere of influence, So far COSCO Group became China's first state-owned enterprise signing the "Universal Declaration of human rights".

· On November 6, 2008, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2008 was held in Dalian, Liaoning Province. The theme of the Summit is "Navigating Cross-Currents".

· On July 9, 2008, Fortune just released Global 500 2008, COSCO Group with its annual revenue of 20.84 billion US dollars ranks in the 405th place, with a sharp jump for 83 places as of last year.

· On June 30, 2008, China COSCO was successfully elected into the FT Global 500 of 2008 by the Financial Times and ranked 242.

· On April 3, 2008, the 10000-TEU container ship COSCO OCEANIA was christened and delivered at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co. Ltd. It is the first time for China shipbuilding industry to build such large containership.

· On December 20, 2007, COSCO released of COSCO Sustainable Development Report 2006 in Beijing.

· On December 5, 2007, the cargo shipment of COSCO Group exceeded 400 million tons for the first time in history.

· On November 1, 2007, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2007 was held in Tianjin. The theme of the Summit is "Riding the Wave".

· On August 1, 2007, the capacity of COSCO operating ship fleet exceeded 50 million deadweight tons (DWT).

· On July 12, 2007, COSCO was for the first time listed in Fortune Global 500, which can be read on www.cnnmoney.com. It was ranked number 488 with revenue of 15413.5 million USD.

· On June 26, 2007, the listing ceremony of China COSCO (SSE: 601919) was grandly held at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, marking the official accession to the China A-Share market of a leading integrated global shipping and logistics company which is the largest shipping company in China.

· On December 20, 2006, the worldwide press conference for the release of 2005 Sustainable Development Report of COSCO Group and Communication Meeting of Related Parties was held in Beijing. As the pilot unit of the Global Compact membership, COSCO Group is the first Chinese enterprise and ocean shipping company whose Sustainable Development Report became the exemplary report of UN Global Compact.

· on November 2, 2006, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2006 was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. The theme of the Summit is "Managing Change".

· On September 8, 2006, the capacity of COSCO operating ship fleet exceeded 40 million deadweight tons (DWT) for the first time in COSCO's history.

· On May 24, 2006, Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), who was on an official visit to Greece, paid a special visit to COSCO Vessel M.V. YUE HE at the Port of Piraeus.

· On December 20, 2005, the opening ceremony of COSCO Charity Foundation was held in Beijing. COSCO Charity Foundation is the first charity foundation launched by an enterprise in China.

· On November 1, 2005, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2005 was held in Shanghai. The theme of the Summit is "China Factor - Challenges & Opportunities".

· On June 30, 2005, the shares of China COSCO Holdings Company Limited (China COSCO: 1919 HK) began trading on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. As one of the world's leading integrated container shipping operators, China COSCO will take this IPO as a turning point to better realize its management values of maximizing operational profits, corporate value and shareholders' return.

· On April 8, 2005, China Ocean Shipping Tally Company joined COSCO Group, became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the COSCO Group.

· On March 8, 2005, People's Daily, together with www.people.com.cn, released a special report on activities of Chinese polar expedition in Antarctica under the title of 'National Flag Swaying on the Summit of Icecap'. As the largest scientific exploration in our history, China's 21st Antarctic Expedition has caught great attentions both from national Top Administrators and people from all walks of life. The primary mission of this trip is to reach the south peak of Dome A, which had been successfully achieved On January 18. Apart from that, the team also took a COSCO company flag and planted it on the summit of the South Pole, Dome A. Two swaying flags on Antarctic 'Inaccessible Pole' witnessed this great event.

· On January 21, 2005, COSCO concluded a shipbuilding contract with South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) to build four 10,000 TEU class super post-panamax containerships. The vessel, which is believed so far to be the first and largest of its kind ever to be built in the world in terms of the slot capacity, measures an overall length of 349 m, 45.6 m in width and 27.3 m in depth. The first vessel in a series of four will be delivered in 2007 in accordance with the agreement. This very shipbuilding contract of COSCO and Hyundai would make history in shipping.

· On January 7, 2005, the coast bulk cargo transportation fleet of COSCO Group was established.

· On July 15, 2004, the first World Shipping (China) Summit, jointly-organized by COSCO, Drewry Shipping Consultants and Maritime China, was inaugurated in Beijing, the capital city of China. The summit with the main theme of "China Factor", has attracted more than 450 participants both from shipping and shipping-related industries. The idea of the conference was visionary and it addressed the single most burning question affecting all our markets. Therefore, it generated such intense international interest. The conference proved to be a great succeed in the end.

· On March 9, 2004, Capt. Wei Jiafu received the Port Pilot Award. This prize was set up by American Long Beach Port bureau in 1954, issued specially for the celebrity who made the brilliant contribution for the Long Beach port and foreign trade and development of marine transportation enterprise.

· On March 1, 2004, COSCO Corporation (Singapore) Ltd. was made to become one of the component stocks of the Singapore Exchange's (SGX's) main benchmark Straits Times Index (STI). It is believed to be the first State-owned enterprise in China who was listed as one of the blue chips in SGX.

· On March 3, 2003, Mr. Zhang Fusheng, Party Secretary and Executive Vice-President of COSCO Group was voted to be the deputy of National People's Congress (NPC) and to present the first session of NPC. On November 8, 2002, Capt. Wei Jiafu, CEO and Executive President of COSCO Group presented the 16th National Congress of CPC. In mid November, Capt. Wei was voted to take on the position as one of the members of Central Discipline Inspection Committee.

· On January 24, 2002, the cooperation agreement signing ceremony between COSCO Group and United States Massachusetts Port Authority, regarding COSCO container liner calling at United States Boston Harbor was held in the Ocean Plaza in Beijing.

· On January 8, 2002, COSCO Logistics Co. Ltd. put into operation in Beijing on the basis of integrated global logistics resources within the group. The reconstructed company has 8 regional subsidiaries across the nation, covering a wide range of areas from Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo in Northern and Eastern China to Wuhan, Xiamen, Guangzhou in Central and Southern China.

· On July 25, 2001, COSCO headquarters successfully passed the jointly on-site certification review of ISO 9001 and 2000 quality management system, ISO 14000 environment management system and OHSASI8001 occupational safety and health management system of the quality certification company of China Classification Society, Det Norske Veritas, Norway and State Occupational Safety and Health System Certification Center and became the first enterprise in China which has got "three" important management certificates.

· On June 22, 2001, COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd. was founded in Nantong.

· On May 8, 2000, port of Long Beach held a grand ceremony in Hyatt Hotel in honor of the outstanding achievement made by Capt. Chen Zhongbiao, former chairman of the board of COSCO. He was awarded by LB as the Best Pilot of the Year. It is said that a total of 66 celebrities either in political arena or in shipping industry had been awarded the honor in the past, including former US president Reagan Ronald and Tong Chihua, the CEO of HKSAR.

· On January 23, 2000, Capt. Wei Jiafu, CEO and executive president of COSCO visited Switzerland and Germany and attended the 30th World Economy Forum (WEF) in Switzerland. During the conference, COSCO was officially enrolled as a member by WEF. For the first time in history, Chinese enterprise became a member of WEF.

· On July 8, 2013, COSCO Group, with an annual income of USD 28.74 billion (RMB 181.3 billion), ranked 401st on the 2012 Global 500 List organized by Fortune.

· On July 1, 2013, Mr. Ma Zehua is appointed as the Chairman of the Board of COSCO Group. Mr. Li Yunpeng is appointed as the Director of the Board and the President of COSCO Group. Capt. Wei Jiafu is retired and no longer holds any position in COSCO Group.

· On May 16, 2013, Capt. Wei Jiafu, Chairman of COSCO Group met with the state-visiting Prime Minister of Greece Antonis Samaras and his senior delegation in Diaoyutai State Guest House. Both parties thoroughly exchanged views on collaborations between COSCO Group and the Port of Piraeus.

· On April 7, 2013, Chairman Wei Jiafu and President Ma Zehua participated in the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia 2013. On April 8, State president Xi Jinping met with representatives of the Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs attending the Boao Forum for Asia. As the representative of entrepreneurs, Capt. Wei Jiafu participated in the meeting. During the annual session, Chairman Wei Jiafu and President Ma Zehua has also attended a number of Forum discussions and met with some representatives of the participating companies, and exchanged views on topics of common interest.

· On March 27, 2013, Chairman Wei jiafu on behalf of China signed the Declaration on the Establishment of the Business Council for the BRIC countries with other authorized representatives of BRIC countries in Durban International Conference Centre in South Africa. China's president Xi Jinping and other leaders of the BRIC countries witnessed the signing ceremony.

· In March, 2013, Ma Zehua, President and Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, was voted to be the deputy of the Twelfth National People's Congress(NPC) and to present the first session of the 12th NPC. Also, President Ma Zehua was elected as the foreign affairs committee member of the 12th NPC.

· On February 28, 2013, China's first 13386TEU containership was delivered by Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Company (NACKS). The delivery reflects that the company overcomes technology difficulties in building VLCS and sets a new record in China's shipbuilding field after the company's record delivery of the 10000TEU containership.

· On September 26, 2012, "Island Innovator", the sixth generation Ultra Deepwater Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig was delivered. The company achieved in the project China's breakthrough of "One-Stop Contractor" service that includes design, construction, test and delivery of such newbuildings.

· On September 19, 2012, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2012 was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The theme of the summit is "Sharing an orderly market".

· On August 10, 2012, COSCO International was certified as a constituent company of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index. The certification reflects the recognition by capital markets of the company's sustainability and eminence in environmental protection, social responsibility and corporate governance.

· On July 9, 2012, COSCO Group, with an annual income of USD 28.80 billion (RMB 186.17 billion), ranked 384th on the 2011 Global 500 List organized by Fortune, comparing with 399th in 2010.

· On May 9, 2012, the awarding ceremony of the 19th International Maritime Hall of Fame was grandly held in New York. Capt. Wei Received the 19th International Maritime Hall of Fame Lookout Award.

· On March 2, 2012, Capt. Wei Jiafu participated in the 10th anniversary celebration since COSCO's first call at the Boston Port, which is hosted by the Massachusetts state government, the Massachusetts Port Authority (MASSPORT), the International Longshoremen Union (ILA) and the Coalition of New England Companies for Trade (CONECT). Capt. Wei Jiafu was awarded the International Business Leaders Award by the Coalition of New England Companies for Trade (CONECT).

· On February 14, 2012, COSCO Shipyard won the 2011 National Science and Technology Progress Award for Key Designs and Building technologies of the High Stability Deepwater Cylindrical Drilling & Storage Platform. It is the first time COSCO has been conferred such high award and the first national science and technology award won by the national offshore engineering circle.

· On February 2, 2012, a ferry of Papua New Guinea was wrecked at the country's Northwest waters. COSCON's M.V. "Zhong He" happened to be close to the site and swiftly conducted search and rescue operations. 28 passengers on that ferry was saved from the water.

· On December 21, 2011, China COSCO Bulk Shipping (Group) Company, a subsidiary of COSCO Group and a key member of China COSCO, was established and start its business on the New Year's Day, 2012.

· On November 11, 2011, China Enterprise Confederation initiated the List of China's Top 100 Transnational Companies and Transnational Index. COSCO ranked 6th in the top 100 companies, reflecting the prominent results of the company's "Go Global" strategy and its transnational operations.

· On November 2, 2011, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2011 was held in Boao, Hainan Province. The theme of the Summit is "Balance & Breakthrough".

· On August 23, 2011, according to the decision of the Central Party Committee (CPC)and the State Council, the Board of Directors of COSCO Group was established. And Capt. Wei Jiafu was appointed as Chairman of the Board and Secretary of Party Committee. Ma Zehua was appointed as Director, President and Deputy Secretary of Party Committee.

· On August 8, 2011, on the occasion of COSCO's 50th anniversary, China Post, in commemoration of the prosperity of China ocean shipping cause, issued a series of 2 stamps with the name of "China Ocean Shipping" and with a total face value of 2.4 Yuan.

· On July 7, 2011, with an annual income of USD24.25 billion and an annual profit of USD1.16 billion, COSCO ranked 339th on the 2010 Global 500 List organized by Fortune.

· On April 27, 2011, The Press Conference for COSCO's 50th Anniversary was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

· On March 1, 2011, 559 trapped Chinese citizens were successfully evacuated from Libya on COSCON's M.V. "Tian Fu He".

· On February 18, 2011, the National Science & Technology Conference 2011 was held by the Ministry of Science & Technology of China. On the conference, COSCO was honored "the Excellent Team of the National Science & Technology Program in the 11th Five-year Plan" for the company's Ocean Ship Ballast Water Physical Purification Treatment Technology, which was advanced both at home and abroad.

· On January 20, 2011, COSCO signed the letter of intent of the UN Global Compact LEAD Project.

· On November 11, 2010, the World Shipping (China) Summit 2010 was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The theme of the Summit is "Staying the Course".

· On October 24, 2010, the Naming Ceremony of the 10000 TEU Class M.V. "COSCO Kaohsiung" and the Inaugural Ceremony of COSCO Taiwan Representative Office was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan Province.

· On October 2, 2010, Premier Wen Jiabao, accompanied by George Papandreou, Premier of Greece, visited COSCO Greece Terminals, spoke highly of the achievements of COSCO at the Port of Piraeus and expressed his wishes for a better future of the port.

· On May 30, 2010, China COSCO Holdings ranked 450th on the FT Global 500 List organized by Financial Times of Britain. It was the third straight year that the company had been listed since 2008.
