President Li Yunpeng attended the Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland and met with the Icelandic President

At the invitation of Mr. Olafur Grimsson, the Icelandic President, President Li Yunpeng attended the first Arctic Circle Assembly, held in Reykjavík, October 12 to 14, 2013.

On the afternoon of October 12, President Grimsson had a meeting with President Li. The two sides fully exchanged views on commercial transit of Arctic waters. President Grimsson spoke highly of COSCO's preparation that ensures the MV YONGSHENG voyage safe and environmentally friendly, and recommended that the experience be shared in the assembly.

On October 13, President Li delivered a speech named Enhance Cooperation, Share Responsibilities, and Build a Bright Future for the Arctic Together. "In the principle of global vision, harmony and win-win, COSCO explores Northern Sea Route with a view to provide value-added services to customers, and achieve common development with customers." said President Li. He also advocated that we put environmental protection first when exploring Arctic resources, enhance cooperation in climate monitoring, ice condition research, hydrological observation when exploiting Arctic resources, and set regulations and disciplines to avoid unrestraint exploitation of Arctic resources.

During his visit in Iceland, President Li also met with Mr. Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, and had exchanges with many counterparts from Icelandic shipping and logistics companies on business cooperation.

This Arctic Circle Assembly was attended by around 1,000 representatives from over 40 countries, including governmental officials, entrepreneurs, experts and scholars.
